A great debate involves the consumption of pizza crust on a pizza. Is the crust just an easy way to grip the pizza, or is the crust a delicious way to expand your delicious meal? If you're unsure about what to do with the crust the next time you order pizza, follow our guide to make the most out of the crust and expand the ways you eat pizza.

You will learn new methods to eat the crust and get some ordering tips to help you enjoy the crust in a whole different way.

1. Dipping Sauces

One of the main issues people have with pizza crust is the plain dough when compared with the sauce and cheese combination found on the rest of the slice. Add a lot of flavor to your pizza crust by ordering a dipping sauce on the side. You have many options for dipping sauces and each one will provide some unique flavors.

One of the more common dipping sauces to choose is a marinara sauce. The sauce will blend well with pizza sauce on the edge of the crust and provide rich flavors similar to dipping a bread stick. Other dipping sauce options include ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing, honey, barbecue sauce, or a buffalo sauce.

If you have a large group or order a larger pizza, consider ordering multiple dipping sauces to try and share across the table. The sauces could become a new tradition you add to every pizza you order.

2. Toppings to the Edge

When you first order a pizza, you can request your toppings to expand all the way to the edge of the pizza. Many places will add the extra cheese and toppings right on top of the crust so you get extra flavor with each bite you each.

When you consider expanding the toppings to the edge, you must choose from flat toppings for the pizza. For example, pepperoni will stick to the crust without falling off while chunks of chicken may fall of the crust area of the pizza without the proper cheese support.

The pizza may be a little messier to grip, but you can enjoy your crust with a fork and knife as you cut the area down to little pieces.

3. Cheesy Topping

If you're looking for a more subtle way to enjoy the pizza crust, consider adding a parmesan cheese topping to the crust. When the pizza is done cooking and handed to your table, apply a coating of parmesan cheese to the crust. The heat will help soften the crust and let it stick on the crust easier.

Once you reach the crust, you will have a nice coating of cheese that adds a pop of flavor to each slice. For more intense flavors, consider adding some hot pepper or garlic salt to the crust. The best way to find your favorite combination is to try out the different flavors and see what you like the best.

4. Crust Sandwiches

Completely transform your pizza crust into a mini-sandwich. Once you reach the crust, pull apart the center with your fingers or use a knife to create an opening. Then you can stuff the middle with any extra toppings or cheese that has fallen off the pizza. Close the crust up and enjoy the stuffed sandwich.

If you don't have a lot of extra toppings to fill the crust, then consider ordering a small size dish. For example, you could order a side of meatballs. Cut and place pieces of the meatball and sauce in the center of the crust to create a mini-meatball sandwich. Consider other side dishes as well depending on your preference and food choices.
